Wild Goose: “The Ancient Representation of the Irish Culture in Modern Times.”

The Inside Story:

“Wild Geese” was a term given to the Irish soldiers and their family who went to France, in the wake of the defeat of the Jacobite Army. Hence the name Wild Goose, which has a resonance deeply rooted in the Irish Culture.

The company is founded by Brain Scott-McCarthy And Kathrine Smyth in 1970. Brain traced his ancestors back to Justin McCarthy who was Lord Mount Castle, one of the original Wild Geese. He closely related his emotions with Wild Geese. Having worked in England, Brain had a strong desire to go back to “Ireland.”

The studio” Wild Goose”, was a means for Brain to come back to Ireland. Over the years, the company has made numerous artworks representing the Wild Geese themselves. The most symbolic one is “A pair of Wild Geese in Flight.”

However far the Wild Geese might have travelled from their home, they still retain a sense of memory of how to get back home. A strong resemblance of how The Irish travelled all over the world but always retained a very strong sense of home.wild-goose-the-wild-geese-bronze

How are they made?

Everything that is crafted in Wild Goose starts with the marriage of an idea or meaning. The highly skilled workers at Wild Goose will then carve that image into a sculpted piece. This sculpted piece becomes the original form. From this piece, a series of procedure takes place so there a replica of the image is faithfully reproduced.

The production process itself starts with metal powders such as bronze or cast iron which form the outer surface of the finished piece and the inner is created from a cold cast pouring. This is then carefully undergoes through a tedious polishing which brings on the real shine of the finished product.

Why is it important?

Over the past two decades, we have proudly supported Local Irish Crafters and Suppliers. Moreover, at Wild Goose, each piece that is made is meticulously thought out, consisting mainly of an emotion, a symbolic representation or an inspiring thought closely related to our rich Irish heritage is the reason why it’s our customers favourite.
